Edinburgh University ranked 20th in world

Edinburgh University has been recognised as one of the world's top higher education institutions.

The Scottish university was ranked 20th in the QS World University Rankings 2011/12.

The table was topped by Cambridge University and a host of London-based universities were also featured in the top ten, but Glasgow University managed to jump up nearly 20 positions to be placed in 59th.

Following these results competition for student property in Edinburgh and Glasgow is likely to be fierce and those students who happen to find a slightly smaller flat than expected may want to consider putting some of their belongings in Edinburgh storage space or Glasgow storage.

Commenting on the rankings, Ben Sowter, head of research at QS, said: "This year's rankings show that the worst effects of the funding cuts have yet to be felt by UK universities. However, pre-emptive redundancies and increased student intake have led to worse student/faculty ratios relative to their international peers."
