British countryside 'most missed' by expats

Individuals who are looking to place possessions in storage facilities and relocate abroad may find the landscape of the UK is the thing they miss most about their home country.

This topped a poll by Lloyds TSB International to find the elements of British life people most regret leaving behind when they start a new life abroad.

Nearly half (46 per cent) said they missed the countryside, while the British sense of humour (42 per cent) and pubs (41 per cent) were second and third in the list.

However, it seems many people may be happy to escape the UK's weather and politics, which each attracted only five per cent of the votes, while 68 per cent of respondents said they are happier abroad.

Spokesman for Lloyds TSB international Nicholas Boys Smith said: "Often you don't know what you've got till it's gone so it speaks glowingly of our countryside that expats around the world miss it so much."

Previously, the organisation revealed expats living in Spain have the highest happiness levels, followed by Canada and Germany.
