Govt housing plans 'positive for the market'
Proposals by the coalition that aim to stimulate the building of new homes have been welcomed.
This week, the Department for Communities and Local Government confirmed its NewBuy scheme to help individuals purchase homes without requiring a high deposit will be open to all buyers and not just those looking to get on the housing ladder for the first time.
Head of communications at the Home Builders Federation Steve Turner said this is a "very sensible" move, as the difficulty many people are facing in securing funding is the biggest constraint on the market at the moment.
"There are a lot of people who currently are not able to scale up their home as their personal circumstances have changed, so it is clearly very useful for those kinds of people as well as first-time buyers," he said.
Mr Turner also said the release of public land for the building of 80,000 new homes will also help stimulate the sector.
