What does your business do?
The Meningitis Association Scotland (MAS) was born in 1991 and was the first registered charity for Meningitis in Scotland. As a charity we raise funds to support research into the various strains of meningitis and with the help of our members, fundraisers and friends, we have managed to raise over £1 million to support research into the disease and to purchase state of the art equipment for medical staff to help with treatment. We also continue to support families who have had a member affected by meningitis, not only the bereaved, but the survivors for whom there is very little help or support.
What is a typical working day for you/what does it look like?
I have a day job during the week so most of my work for (MAS) is done in the evenings and weekends. As the Chief Executive for the charity I do a lot of different things such as attending meetings, helping plan fundraising events including fates and our Meningitis Ball and answering any emails or calls I receive. Most of my work is done from home as this saves money on overheads that we can use to help the people who need it most.
What do you use Len Lothian for?
We use Len Lothian for storage. As I work from home I don’t have much extra space and so we use Len Lothian to store all of our literature and brochures, prizes for our various fates and the Meningitis Ball and really anything else we need for fundraising.
What’s your top tip in Business?
My top tip in business is to not be shy in asking people for help. We all need help at some point and it’s no good to struggle on alone, there’s always somebody willing to help out. Just make sure you help other people when they need it.
