What does your business do?
My business is point of sale. More specifically I set up retail point of sale displays in department stores like House of Fraser and Debenhams. I work mostly with cosmetic brands like Christian Dior and Estée Lauder and this involves me travelling to department stores across Scotland to set up promotional point of sale.
What is a typical working day for you/what does it look like?
My typical working day is from 5am until 10am and then from 6pm until 10pm. This is because I normally have to be in the stores while they are closed. During this time I set up the point of sale for the brand I’m working and assembly any displays that are required. I also sometimes change the light box displays within stores.
What do you use Len Lothian for?
As a one man business, Len Lothian has been very helpful. I have worked with them for around 20 years and they have taken a lot of the burden off of me and are really easy to work with. I mostly use Len Lothian for storing point of sale, this includes things like signage, counters, panels, props etc. They also take receipt of all my deliveries and I use their Pick, Pack and Dispatch service to get POS delivered to stores that I will be working in.
What’s your top tip in Business?
My top tip in business is to always give a good service for what you charge. I have seen many companies start up and then get greedy and those ones always eventually fail because they don’t provide good value to the customer. Always look at the job from the customer’s point of view and then charge what you would pay to get it done. Doing this helps you deliver a great service at a good price and almost always ensures repeat business.
