Ensured peace of mind with Len’s Self Storage Insurance.
It is a requirement of the Self Storage Association Licence Agreement that customers’ goods must be insured whilst the goods are in store.
We require evidence that you have insurance cover within 7 days of commencement of the storage contract with us otherwise you must take out an insurance policy with us.
Your insurance through Len Lothian is arranged on a “New for Old” basis.
We will ask you to complete an inventory of your major items and declare the replacement value of the goods to be stored. Please make sure you are declaring the total value of all your goods. For example in the event of a fire resulting in complete destruction of your goods, you would want to receive a settlement figure so you can replace all of you goods and not only some of them.
Please note that the New for Old cover does not include clothing and linen and an allowance for wear and tear should be applied to these items.
It is essential to ensure that your goods are not underinsured as in the event of a partial loss where you have undervalued your goods you will only receive a percentage of the value. This is because of the application of average.
If a Customer declares their goods at £10,000 and it is found that their goods are worth £20,000 in the event of a claim they will receive 50% of any settlement. For example, if a claim is made for £1,000 they will only receive £500.
