Didn’t use it? Lose it

This is a simple yet effective starting point. If you didn’t use those decorations you’ve been holding on to, or you have more serving dishes than you have family to feed, and you’re unlikely to use them again, then donate or recycle them.

The same goes for all those Christmas jumpers. Pop them up on Vinted and put your earnings into next year’s savings pot, because every penny helps, and starting early can only be a bonus.

Pack smarter now for simple unpacking later

We get it, by the time it comes to putting away the decorations, you’d happily throw them out of sight and out of mind, but instead, take some time to go through them. Throw away, fix, or recycle any broken ones— they aren’t going to magically fix themselves in the attic.

Organise your things into stackable transparent boxes so you can easily navigate them again next year. There’s nothing worse than needing to open every box before finding what you need. And if you’re feeling extra organised, you could even label them.
