Storage hacks for new parents

Parents packing

Welcoming a new bundle of joy is a wonderful occasion, but between the baby gear and all of the extra clothes and blankets, space can quickly start to feel a little tight. If you’re a new parent and are feeling overwhelmed by your lack of storage space, never fear! Our storage hacks for new parents will help you get your house back in order in no time.

Use a dresser drawer as a changing table

This can save valuable floor space and provide plenty of storage for all of those diapers, wipes, and onesies. Plus, it's easy to find a dresser that coordinates with the rest of the nursery furniture. Just be sure to affix it to the wall so that it can't tip over, and invest in a padded changing pad to make diaper changes more comfortable.

Use available space under the crib

By storing things like extra diapers, wipes, and blankets under the crib, you can free up some much-needed space in the nursery. Invest in low-rise plastic or fabric bins that can slide right under the crib for easy restocks. If the sight of storage bins bothers you, simply cover it up with a fuss-free crib skirt.

Install an additional closet rod

Closet space is often wasted on tiny baby clothes, but by installing an additional closet rod at waist height, you can instantly double the hanging space. The good news is that an additional rod can be purchased to size and, with some elbow grease, can be installed in no time. Additionally, a hanging shoe rack inside the closet is great for storing their slippers, booties and extra towels for spit-up.

Invest in draw dividers

Attempting to keep a mountain of tiny baby supplies organised is a full-time job. Thankfully, draw dividers with small compartments are a great way to keep track of tiny socks, bibs and adorable onesies. They’re also great to store and organise items that are still a little too big for those squeezable chubby baby legs.

Go vertical with shelves

By using shelves, you can take advantage of unused vertical space and keep things off the ground where they are more likely to become dusty or damaged. Additionally, shelves can help you create a cohesive look in the room by keeping everything from books to toys in one space. Invest in colourful fabric bins with labels for a touch of fun.
